Job summary

A local government authority in Elgin seeks a candidate for a temporary maternity cover role providing reception and clerical support within a school. The successful applicant will manage reception duties, perform clerical tasks, and demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills. Educational requirements include 4 SQA Standard Grades and advanced keyboard qualification. Salary is £25,994.15 pro rata, with a work pattern of Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 3.45 pm.

To provide an efficient and effective reception and clerical support service within the school.

Responsibilities
  • To provide a general reception service to members of the public and visitors to the school.
  • General clerical duties.
  • Typing/word processing.
  • Book keeping as required.
  • Other duties.
The Individual
  • Experience of working in a busy office environment using relevant technology and equipment e.g. photocopier, E-mail, Intra/Internet
  • Significant clerical/administration/typing experience, including production of letter/report, filing, cash handling and dealing with the public
  • Experience of using a range of computer packages including Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, Phoenix, Publisher, Seemis
  • 4 SQA standard grades or equivalent (at level 3 or above, including English and Mathematics/Arithmetic*)
  • Advanced keyboard qualification (RSA II in typing, audio typing, word processing)/ ECDL/Clait* (or equivalent working knowledge of Microsoft software packages)
  • Ability to use initiative when required
  • Flexible in approach and open to different ways of working
  • Self-confidence and self-motivated

This post is considered to be a Regulated Role' under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.

Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council.

Temporary maternity cover starting February 2026

Closing Date: 2 January 2026
Starting Salary: £25,994.15 (pro rata)
£13.79 per hour
31.25 hours per week (47 week contract, ie term time working plus balance of days to be worked during school holiday periods)
