Job summary

St George's CofE (Aided) Primary School is seeking a reliable Cleaner in Charge / Key Holder to join our site team. You will oversee day-to-day cleaning, support the team to maintain high standards, and perform opening/closing duties to keep the site secure.

Prior cleaning experience is helpful but not essential; full training will be provided. Hours are 18.75 per week, Monday to Friday, 3:00pm–6:45pm, term time plus two weeks.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout classrooms, offices, corridors, and communal areas.
• Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping a variety of floor surfaces.
• Cleaning and sanitising toilets, washrooms, and welfare facilities.
• Emptying bins and disposing of waste in accordance with school procedures and health and safety guidelines.
• Safely using cleaning equipment, machinery, and cleaning products.
• Carrying out scheduled and reactive cleaning tasks to support the day-to-day operation of the school.
• Adapting cleaning duties as required to meet changing needs.
• Reporting maintenance issues, hazards, or stock shortages to relevant staff.
• Contributing to a safe, welcoming, and hygienic learning environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

This is an important role within the school, helping to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day cleaning operation, supporting the cleaning team to deliver consistently high standards, and ensuring all areas of the school are maintained to an excellent standard. As a Key Holder, you will also play a vital role in the security of the premises, carrying out opening and closing procedures and ensuring the site remains secure at all times. Working in a busy school environment, you will be adaptable, proactive, and able to respond effectively to changing priorities and operational needs.
