Purpose of the Role

AEGIS London currently has a vacancy in the Specialty team for a Class Underwriter to lead the Marine Hull and War portfolio. You will be responsible for underwriting in accordance with the business plan and personal underwriting authorities, as well as managing other team members in Marine Hull and War. This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced underwriter to develop a new portfolio within a high-performing team at a successful Lloyd's Syndicate.

Duties and Accountabilities

• Underwrite business on behalf of the Syndicate according to personal authority, procedures, and guidelines, aiming to meet business mix, premium income, and loss ratio targets.
• Manage, lead, and develop the team, ensuring timely and accurate task completion, conducting biannual appraisals, and providing appropriate training.
• Share information and collaborate with peer reviewers to ensure risk records are complete and accessible.
• Coordinate with other departments such as credit control, claims, exposure management, and risk management.
• Ensure high standards of service to brokers and policyholders.
• Work collaboratively within AEGIS London to maintain good stakeholder relationships.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

• Deep expertise in Marine Hull and War risk, with demonstrable experience in the (re)insurance market.
• Excellent organizational, planning, and managerial skills.
• Strong presentation, analytical, and negotiation abilities.
• Broad network within the London market.
• Solid understanding of the global Marine Hull and War market.
• ACII qualification is advantageous.
• Proficient IT skills, including MS Office.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and build relationships with stakeholders.
