Job summary

Oak Lodge School in London is seeking a Class Teacher for a 12-month maternity cover. The role is full-time, term time only (39 weeks). You will plan and deliver language-based lessons for pupils with D/deaf and speech, language and communication needs, using BSL 2 with CSW support.

Join a supportive, small school community and collaborate with therapists to support pupil progress, EHCPs, and inclusive learning. DBS enhanced check required.

Qualifications

• Essential QTS
• Experience teaching in a special school
• BSL Level 2
• Experience with deaf and language-impaired learners

• Understanding the needs of D/deaf pupils and those with speech, language and communication needs
• Experience working with pupils with autism
• Strong behaviour management skills
• English and Maths at Grade A–C or Level 2

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging programmes of study for pupils with D/deaf and speech, language and communication needs
• Design a topic-based, primary-style curriculum for language-based subjects
• Use BSL Level 2 effectively to support pupils' communication with CSW support
• Differentiate the curriculum to meet individual needs and set aspirational targets
• Collaborate with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and other specialists
• Assess, monitor and report pupil progress, including EHCP contributions
• Act as Form Tutor, promoting wellbeing and progress of your tutor group
• Manage Teaching Assistants and support staff to maximise pupil outcomes
• Create an inclusive learning environment and model high behaviour standards
• Communicate effectively with parents, carers and external professionals
• Contribute to extra-curricular activities and wider school life

Essential requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Experience teaching in a special school
• BSL Level 2
• Experience working with deaf and/or language impaired children and young people
