Job summary

Oak Lodge School is a secondary school for students with hearing, speech and language needs with a residential provision. We invite an experienced Class Teacher to join our vibrant community and help deliver a high-quality, topic-based primary-style curriculum for pupils with complex needs.

The role requires QTS, strong experience in a special school setting, and collaboration with therapists. You will support EHCP processes, oversee Teaching Assistants, and contribute to a safe, inclusive

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is required.
• Experience teaching in a special school primary or early years setting.
• Experience working with pupils with Down's syndrome.
• Confident in delivering personal care.
• Proficient in using Makaton to support communication.
• Ability to design a topic-based, primary-style curriculum.
• Understanding of pupils with complex SEN needs.
• Experience with autism.
• Strong behaviour management skills.
• English and Mathematics at Grade A-C or Level 2.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging programmes for Year 7 and 8 pupils with D/deaf and speech, language and communication needs.
• Design a topic-based, primary-style curriculum for language-based subjects.
• Differentiate the curriculum to meet individual needs and set aspirational targets.
• Collaborate with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and other specialists.
• Assess, monitor and report pupil progress, including EHCP contributions.
• Act as Form Tutor and support pupil wellbeing and progress.
• Manage Teaching Assistants and support staff to maximise outcomes.
• Create an inclusive, safe learning environment and model high behaviour standards.
• Communicate effectively with parents, carers and external professionals.
• Contribute to extra-curricular activities and wider school life.
