Job summary

The Best Connection Group is seeking a Class 2 (Category C) Driver for local building materials deliveries in Ashington and surrounding areas. This temporary ongoing role offers regular local driving work, with the potential for permanent placement for the right candidate.

You will transport goods, ensure safe and efficient deliveries, perform vehicle checks, and maintain accurate records. Training options including HIAB may be available to broaden skills within a commercial driving role.

Qualifications

• Valid UK HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence.
• Valid CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
• Valid Digital Tachograph card.
• No more than six penalty points, subject to insurance requirements.
• Good communication skills and a professional manner with customers.
• Ability to work independently, manage delivery schedules and follow instructions.
• Experience in multi-drop deliveries would be advantageous.
• HIAB certification (ALLMI or equivalent) is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a Class 2 vehicle to deliver building materials to customer sites.
• Load, unload and secure goods following procedures and manual handling guidelines.
• Carry out daily vehicle inspections and report defects promptly.
• Ensure deliveries are accurate and on schedule.
• Maintain delivery documentation, vehicle records and tachograph information.
• Communicate professionally with customers and site personnel.
• Adhere to road safety, driver hours regulations and site rules.
• Keep vehicle clean and roadworthy; assist with other driving duties as needed.

The Role

The Best Connection is currently recruiting a Class 2 (Category C) Driver on behalf of an established business operating across the local area.

This is a temporary ongoing opportunity offering regular local driving work, a structured working pattern and the potential for a permanent position for the right candidate.

The successful applicant will be responsible for transporting and delivering goods to a variety of customer locations, ensuring deliveries are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard of customer service.

Additional equipment training may be available to suitable candidates looking to broaden their skills and develop their experience within a commercial driving role.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operating a Class 2 vehicle to deliver building materials and associated goods to customer premises and site locations throughout the local area.
• Loading, unloading and securing goods safely, following relevant procedures and manual handling guidelines.
• Carrying out daily vehicle inspections and reporting any defects or maintenance concerns promptly.
• Ensuring deliveries are completed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with agreed schedules.
• Maintaining accurate delivery documentation, vehicle records and tachograph information in line with legal and company requirements.
• Communicating professionally with customers, site personnel and colleagues to ensure a positive delivery experience.
• Working in accordance with road safety legislation, driver hours regulations, health and safety procedures and site-specific requirements.
• Keeping the vehicle clean, tidy and in a roadworthy condition.
• Assisting with other reasonable driving and delivery duties as required.

Working Hours & Pay

• Monday to Friday: Standard daytime shifts, typically 07:30-17:00.
• Saturday: Morning shifts, 08:00-12:00, as required.
• Hourly Rate: £16.50 per hour.
• Additional hours and applicable overtime or Saturday enhancements may be available in line with the assignment's working arrangements.

The role offers a consistent local working pattern, with the opportunity to gain further experience in the building materials delivery sector.

Requirements

• Valid UK HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving licence.
• Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
• Valid Digital Tachograph card.
• No more than six penalty points, subject to insurance requirements.
• A safe, responsible approach to driving and vehicle operation.
• Good communication skills and a professional manner when dealing with customers.
• The ability to work independently, manage delivery schedules and follow instructions.
• Previous experience in multi-drop, construction supply or building materials deliveries would be advantageous.
• Existing HIAB certification (ALLMI or equivalent) is beneficial but not essential.
