Job summary

Barrett Steel Limited in the UK is seeking an experienced HGV driver to join our distribution team. The role covers multi‑drop deliveries, unloading at customer premises, POD handling, load checks, and keeping vehicles in safe working order.

Hours are typically Monday to Friday, around 40 hours with overtime; occasional away trips may be required. We offer a competitive salary plus overtime, discounts on retail and leisure, access to health and wellbeing services, and a cycle-to-work scheme.

Qualifications

• Valid HGV Class 2 licence required.
• Driver CPC and Tachograph card holder.
• Knowledge of Working Time Directive and regulations.
• Experience in warehousing or distribution is preferred.
• Experience with EH&S standards is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Oversee multi-drop deliveries and unloading at customer premises.
• Ensure Proofs of Delivery are signed and returned promptly.
• Check load security and weight distribution per safe practices.
• Maintain delivery vehicles and report defects.
• Uphold health and safety standards on site, on the road and at customer premises.
• Provide high-quality customer service and assist in warehouse duties when needed.

All About the Role

The purpose of this role is to carry out multi-drop driving & related duties involved with the carriage of goods. The basic hours for this role are Monday to Friday 40 hours plus overtime.

Specific tasks include:

• To oversee the safe unloading of vehicles at customer premises
• Ensuring Proofs of Delivery are signed & returned without delay.
• To check the load security & weight distribution according to latest safe working practices at the beginning and end of each shift.
• To ensure that the delivery vehicles are always maintained to Company standards, of reporting of any defects to the vehicle.
• Ensures vehicles are in safe condition, with daily checks correctly completed before use, & are operated in a safe manner.
• Uphold all exacting health and safety standards at site, on the road and at customer premises.
• Be an ambassador for high-quality customer service
• Support in the warehouse when needed.

All About You

Essential Skills for the role:

• To hold a valid HGV Class 2 Licence (with no more than 6 points).
• Own a Driver CPC & Digital Tachograph card.
• Knowledge of working time directive.
• Previous experience in a warehousing or distribution business, ideally multi-drop
• Understanding and experience of EHS requirements.
• The ability to stay away as and when the job requires it.
