Job summary

Barrett Steel Limited, at Goodman Steel in Reading, is looking for a Class 2 Driver who will also work in the warehouse. The role includes multi-drop driving and related duties, with hours of 08:30 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, plus overtime as required.

You will be checking load security, maintaining vehicle safety, unloading at customer sites, and handling stock movements. A CPC, forklift experience, and a safety-focused approach are essential.

Qualifications

• Hold a Class 2 license with fewer than 6 points.
• Have a valid Driver CPC & Digital Tachograph card.
• Experience in a busy warehouse using forklift trucks is preferred.
• Be organised and methodical in approach.
• Champion health and safety in the workplace.
• Flexible approach with a one-team mindset.

Responsibilities

• Check load security and weight distribution at start and end of each shift.
• Ensure vehicles are safe, with daily checks completed before use.
• Oversee safe unloading at customer premises and deliver excellent customer service.
• Ensure Proof of Delivery documents are signed, dated and returned promptly.
• Pick computer-generated orders with heavy and large items handling.
• Transfer stock to locations using forklifts and cranes.
• Assist in production and dispatch of customer orders.
• Ensure documentation is accurate for stock records.
• Always comply with health and safety regulations on and off site.

All About the Role

Based at Goodman Steel, Reading site. We have a dual role available for a Class 2 Driver who will also work in the warehouse as often as required. When driving, the role will be a multi-drop role where you will carry out driving and related duties ensuring the safe carriage and delivery of steel goods. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 08:30am to 5pm, plus overtime when required.

Specific tasks include:

• To check the load security & weight distribution according to latest safe working practices at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Ensures vehicles are in safe condition, with daily checks correctly completed before use, & are operated in a safe manner.
• To oversee the safe unloading of vehicles at customer premises and delivering excellent Customer Service.
• Ensuring Proof of Delivery documents are signed, dated & returned without delay
• Pick computer generated orders with repetitive handling/lifting of heavy and large item.
• Transferring stock to its location using manual handling, forklift trucks and cranes.
• Assisting in the overall production and dispatch of customers' orders
• Ensure all documentation is correctly actioned for accuracy of stock
• Always adhering to all health and safety regulations, on and off site

Essential Skills for the role
