Job summary

Barrett Engineering Steel Midlands, part of Barrett Steel, seeks a HGV Class 2 Driver for multi-drop deliveries from Willenhall. Basic hours are 45 per week, with overtime and nights away as needed; start and finish times vary.

You will unload at customer sites, load/unload with trained equipment, sign PODs, check load security, perform daily vehicle checks, and maintain safety standards while updating documentation and staying in touch with the depot.

Qualifications

• Valid HGV Class 2 licence with <=6 points.
• Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph card.
• Knowledge of working time directive.
• Experience in warehousing or distribution, ideally multi-drop.
• Understanding of EHS requirements.
• Willingness to stay away overnight when required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee safe unloading of vehicles at customer premises.
• Load/unload vehicles using trained mobile equipment as required.
• Ensure Proofs of Delivery are signed and returned promptly.
• Check load security and weight distribution at start and end of shift.
• Maintain vehicles to company standards and report defects.
• Perform daily vehicle checks and operate safely on-road and off-road.
• Uphold health and safety standards on site and at customer premises.
• Update documentation relating to carriage of products.
• Maintain contact with the depot and communicate issues promptly.
• Be an ambassador for high quality customer service.
• Willingness to work nights away when needed.

All About the Role

Based at our Barrett Engineering Steel, Willenhall site, the purpose of this role is to carry out multi-drop driving & related duties involved with the safe carriage of goods. The basic hours for this role are 45 per week, Monday to Friday and start and finish times can vary, plus essential overtime and nights away when necessary.

Specific tasks include:

• To oversee the safe unloading of vehicles at customer premises
• As required, & appropriately trained, work mobile equipment to load &/or unload vehicles
• Ensuring Proofs of Delivery are signed & returned without delay.
• To check the load security & weight distribution according to latest safe working practices at the beginning and end of each shift.
• To ensure that the delivery vehicles are always maintained to Company standards, reporting of any defects to the vehicle.
• Ensures vehicles are in safe condition, with daily checks correctly completed before use, & are operated in a safe manner.
• Uphold all exacting health and safety standards at site, on the road and at customer premises.
• Accurately update documentation relating to the carriage of products.
• Maintaining contact with the depot, ensuring any issues are communicated throughout the day.
• Be an ambassador for high quality customer service
• A willingness to work nights away when needed.

All About You - Essential Skills for the role:

• To hold a valid HGV Class 2 Licence (with no more than 6 points).
• Own a Driver CPC & Digital Tachograph card.
• Knowledge of working time directive.
• Previous experience in a warehousing or distribution business, ideally multi-drop
• Understanding and experience of EHS requirements.
• The ability to stay away as and when the job requires it.
