Job summary

Gregory Distribution Ltd in Avonmouth is seeking a Class 1 Driver to join a dedicated contract team. You will deliver goods to retail stores using curtain side, tail lift and box trailers, with a typical 1 to 3 drops per shift and a focus on keeping deliveries on schedule.

You will ensure loads are safely restrained, operate electric pallet trucks, and perform daily vehicle checks while maintaining strong communication with the transport office and store teams.

Qualifications

• Hold a valid UK Class 1 (CE) Driving Licence and Driver CPC.
• Digital Tachograph Card is required.
• Experience delivering to retail/sites is advantageous; full training available.

Responsibilities

• Deliver goods to retail stores on a dedicated contract with curtain side, tail lift and box trailers.
• Maintain a 1–3 drops per shift and keep deliveries on schedule.
• Secure loads with straps and nets to prevent movement during transit.
• Operate electric pallet trucks and assist unloading at customer sites when needed.
• Move trailers for servicing and perform daily vehicle checks using the company phone.
• Communicate with transport office to report delivery progress and changes in real time.
• Present a professional image at every delivery point and build relationships with store teams.

Class 1 Driver

Location: The Range, Avonmouth

Shift: Monday - Friday, start times between 13:00hrs - 16:00hrs

Fantastic Earning Potential

Earn £17.00 per hour (46,982 per annum), based on a 48-hour working week, plus an additional £17.50 per shift for starts between 12:00hrs and 02:00hrs*. Boost your earnings with additional shifts and enhanced rates for weekends, Bank Holidays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

About The Role

• Deliver goods to retail stores on a dedicated contract using curtain side, tail lift, and box trailers, while returning store waste to the depot.
• Enjoy a manageable delivery schedule with typically 1 to 3 drops per shift, keeping deliveries on schedule and customers satisfied.
• Ensure all loads are safely and securely restrained using straps, nets, and appropriate securing equipment to prevent movement or damage during transit.
• Safely operate electric‑assisted pallet trucks and carry out manual handling for cage‑based deliveries when required, ensuring efficient and safe unloading at customer sites.
• Manage trailer movements, including the collection and return of trailers for servicing at the end of each shift.
• Perform comprehensive daily vehicle safety checks using your company phone to maintain top‑notch vehicle safety and reliability.
• Maintain regular communication with the transport office to provide updates on delivery progress and respond to any changes or issues in real time.
• Represent the company professionally at every delivery point, ensuring excellent customer service and building strong relationships with store teams.
• Participate in ongoing training and development, including refresher courses and updates on industry regulations, to keep your skills sharp and compliant.

Essential Skills And Qualifications

• Hold a valid UK Class 1 (CE) Driving Licence.
• Possess a current Driver CPC qualification and Digital Tachograph Driver Card.
• Previous experience delivering to retail, commercial or customer sites is advantageous, although full training can be provided.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and build positive relationships with customers.
• Be capable of working to planned schedules and delivery deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.
• Bring a positive, reliable and team‑focused approach, with the confidence to work independently when required.
• Have good geographical awareness and the ability to navigate routes efficiently across the UK.
