Description

Lancashire Insurance Company Limited (LICL), a member of the Lancashire Insurance Group, is seeking an experienced Claims professional to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the operational and technical control of all Bermuda claims activity and will lead an efficient, effective, and driven team to deliver key business objectives in line with regulatory standards, legislation, and legal frameworks.

The candidate will oversee the efficacy of reserving practices across Property, Specialty, and Casualty Reinsurance claims and ensure operational functionality across these classes. Additional responsibilities include fostering a collaborative approach to managing Property Reinsurance claims across Bermuda and Lloyds platforms, while adhering to Group Operating guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Group Head of Claims in executing the Group claim strategy.
  • Ensure the Bermuda claim function is well-resourced with skilled practitioners and a strong claims culture.
  • Provide high-quality claims service with prompt and fair customer handling.
  • Integrate claims management into business planning processes.
  • Maintain a consistent approach to claims across Property, Specialty, and Casualty reinsurance.
  • Ensure adequate reserves for Bermuda claim activities.
  • Manage claims actively throughout their lifecycle for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Stay informed about relevant regulatory environments.
  • Protect company interests in disputed and litigated claims.
  • Develop relationships with internal stakeholders such as underwriting, actuarial, finance, risk, and audit teams.
  • Enhance the profile of the LICL claims team internally and externally.
  • Oversee internal and external peer reviews and audits.
  • Respond to catastrophes as needed.
  • Maintain procedural documentation for claims handling approaches.
  • Seek efficiencies and implement process improvements.
  • Identify skill gaps and develop tailored training plans for the team.
  • Build the claims team’s profile within the Bermudian claims community.
  • Produce regular MI claims reports and analytics.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar reinsurance role.
  • University degree and/or professional insurance qualifications (ACII, AIC, CPCU) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of insurance and reinsurance principles and markets.
  • Experience handling Casualty claims is preferred.
  • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure independently and collaboratively.
