Markel is hiring a Claims Handler in Leeds with hybrid working (4 days in office, 1 day from home). You will manage a varied portfolio of property and liability claims, owning customer outcomes and building relationships with brokers and third parties.

This role offers exposure to a wide range of claims, a supportive team, and structured development including professional qualifications, with a strong emphasis on service standards and career progression within Markel's claims function.

Claims Handler – Leeds | Hybrid Working (4 Days Office / 1 Day Home)

We're looking for a Claims Handler to join our Prompt Resolution Team (PRT) in Leeds. Whether you already have property claims experience or are looking to broaden your insurance career, this is an opportunity to join a highly supportive team that develops future claims specialists, senior handlers and leaders.

Many of our current senior claims professionals started their careers in the PRT, making this one of the best entry points into the wider Markel Claims function.

You’ll manage your own portfolio of claims, take ownership of decisions and build relationships with brokers, customers and third parties.

You’ll gain exposure to a wide variety of claims, with a particular focus on property claims, whilst also developing experience across liability and injury matters. This breadth of exposure gives you genuine opportunities to shape your future career within claims.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll manage a varied caseload of claims from first notification through to resolution, taking ownership of customer outcomes and delivering excellent service throughout.

Key responsibilities include

• Managing low-value property damage claims
• Handling Employers' Liability and Public Liability claims
• Reviewing claims information and policy coverage
• Liaising with customers, brokers, loss adjusters and third parties
• Making proactive outbound calls to progress claims efficiently
• Prioritising and managing your own workload
• Delivering excellent customer and broker service
• Working to agreed service standards and response times
• Building strong relationships across the business and wider claims network

You’ll handle a broad range of property claims including

• Escape of water
• Storm damage
• Fire damage
• Theft
• Accidental damage
• Property and equipment losses
• Domestic and commercial property matters

What we’re looking for

We’re particularly interested in speaking with individuals who have experience handling:

• Property Claims
• Household claims
• Personal lines property claims
• Domestic property claims
• Commercial property claims
• First‑party property claims

We’d also welcome applications from candidates with experience in:

• Liability claims
• EL/PL claims
• Insurance claims handling
• Legal expenses claims
• Claims-focused paralegal roles

Most importantly, you’ll demonstrate:
