Claims Assistant - Marine Team - Manchester

We are looking for a Claims Assistant to join the Marine Team based in our Manchester office.

The Role

Working in a specialised team for a leading international law firm in Manchester, you will be responsible for a varied workload, including admin, billing, and pursuing subrogated claims against liable parties in the UK and globally. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in marine law within a successful and growing team.

To succeed in this role, it is preferable to have a minimum of 12 months experience in the marine or commercial insurance market. You should have strong academic credentials, preferably CII qualification or above, or a degree. A strong work ethic, ability to handle a high-volume, varied caseload with deadlines and targets, is essential.

Experience with handling subrogated recoveries is ideal, but the ability to learn this work quickly is also acceptable. This role is suitable for recent graduates as full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities
Administrative
  • File management: updating and maintaining files, ensuring documents are correctly named and stored according to business conventions (electronic and paper).
  • File opening and closing: setting up matters on relevant systems and ensuring proper closure and archiving procedures.
  • Printing, copying, and scanning documents as needed, supporting high-volume tasks.
Financial
  • Assisting with billing and expenses.
Processing
  • Creating and uploading information to client data rooms following instructions.
  • Checking data for accuracy.
  • Managing client correspondence, ensuring proper filing in document management systems.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Degree-level education.
  • Effective communication skills for liaising with clients and internal teams.
  • Good organisational skills and effective time management.
  • Conscientious with a focus on quality and responsibility.
  • Positive attitude and adaptability.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Technical Skills
  • Relevant office administration experience.
