Job summary

Energy Jobline CVL is seeking an Estimator for the construction and infrastructure sector. This full-time, permanent role involves preparing competitive tender estimates, analysing project costs and supporting the commercial team on UK projects.

You will review drawings, take-offs and quotations, quantify materials and labour, assess risks and deliver cost breakdowns for tender submissions, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.

Qualifications

• Experience as Estimator or similar commercial role in construction or civil engineering.
• Ability to review drawings, specs and Bills of Quantities.
• Strong cost control, analytical and Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction and infrastructure projects.
• Review tender documentation, specs, drawings and BOQ to establish project requirements.
• Undertake detailed take-offs and measurements for materials, labour, plant and subcontractors.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Identify commercial risks and value engineering opportunities during tendering.
• Prepare tender submissions and cost breakdowns.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors on pricing.
• Support handovers to delivery teams after tenders are won.

About the Role

We are working with an established specialist contractor operating across the construction, infrastructure and refurbishment sectors to recruit an experienced Estimator.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Estimator to join a growing business delivering a diverse range of projects across the UK. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing competitive tenders, analysing project costs and supporting the commercial team in securing new business.

The role would suit an Estimator with experience in construction, civil engineering, structural refurbishment or specialist contracting who is looking to join a business with a strong project pipeline and opportunities for career progression.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction andinfrastructure projects.
• Review tender documentation, specifications, drawings and bills of quantities to establish project requirements.
• Undertake detailed take-offs and measurements to quantify materials, labour, plant and subcontractor requirements.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Identify commercial risks, opportunities and potential value engineering solutions during the tender process.
• Prepare tender submissions, cost breakdowns and supporting documentation.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors to clarify project requirements and pricing.
• Work closely with commercial, operational and project delivery teams to ensure accurate tender submissions.
• Maintain estimating records, cost databases and historical project information.
• Support handovers to the delivery team following successful tender awards.
• Ensure tenders are submitted within agreed deadlines and meet the required quality standards.

Requirements

• Previous experience in an Estimator or similar commercial role within construction, civil engineering or a related sector.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, labour costs and subcontractor pricing.
• Experience reviewing technical drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Ability to prepare detailed cost estimates and take-offs.
• Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of project risks and cost control.
• Excellent communication, organisational and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and relevant estimating software.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and work to tight deadlines.

Desirable Experience

• Background in structural refurbishment, concrete repairs, protective coatings, specialist building works or infrastructure maintenance.
• Experience pricing projects within live operational environments.
• Knowledge of tendering procedures and construction contracts.
• Experience working with public and private sector clients.
