Job summary

Mott MacDonald in the UK is seeking a Technical Principal with extensive civil/structural design experience to join our Energy division. You will carry out design work on power plants, HV substations, HVDC interconnectors, and HV cable projects, leading FEED, preparing drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.

You will manage projects, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and drive quality and innovation while mentoring junior engineers in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Deep understanding of structural engineering principles, including load-bearing capacity, material properties, and design codes (e.g., Eurocodes, ASCE).
• Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP2000 or ETABS for modelling and analysis.
• Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and applying it to improve project coordination.
• Strong project leadership, ability to manage structural projects including timelines, budgets, and quality.
• Experience in FEED and cost estimation for structural components.
• Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary design and resolve conflicts.
• Detail-oriented with drawing preparation for planning applications and tender packages.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Civil or Structural Engineering; chartership desirable.

Responsibilities

• Project Leadership: oversee structural engineering projects from concept to completion.
• Proposal Writing and Cost Estimation for structural components.
• FEED activities related to structural components.
• Design Coordination with multidisciplinary teams for integrated solutions.
• Preparation of drawings and specifications for planning applications and tenders.
• Condition and structural assessment of existing structures to determine reuse potential.
