Job summary

First Recruitment Group is seeking a Civil & Structural Engineer on a contract basis to support maintenance, projects and plant improvements at the Immingham site. You will provide technical leadership, develop upgrades, and contribute to asset strategies ensuring safety and reliability.

The role requires Chartered status or active pursuit, with extensive use of design software and strong experience in industrial environments. On-site work at Immingham will be required.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Chartered status preferred or actively working towards chartership.
  • Demonstrated technical Civil/Structural engineering expertise.
  • Strong design experience across industrial applications.
  • Experience with structural/civil design software listed above.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Civil & Structural Engineering Discipline Adviser on site.
  • Promote best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Implement standards for quality, compliance and consistency.
  • Provide input across project development stages including front-end and procurement.
  • Support MOC process with engineering guidance and approvals.
  • Approve engineering changes via site change control.
  • Monitor legislation and industry standards for compliance.
  • Develop survey and inspection programmes for structures and containment systems.
  • Liaise with consultants and contractors for maintenance, turnaround and projects.
  • Work with plant stakeholders on practical, cost-effective solutions.

Job description

Play a key role in maintaining, improving and developing critical infrastructure, delivering innovative Civil & Structural engineering solutions across a complex industrial site.

Our Client has a requirement for a Civil & Structural Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Immingham.

Role Purpose:

  • Provide Civil & Structural engineering discipline support and technical expertise across maintenance, projects and plant improvement activities.
  • Support the development and implementation of engineering solutions for plant upgrades and modifications.
  • Contribute to short and long-term asset strategies, ensuring infrastructure remains safe, reliable and fit for purpose.
  • Provide engineering support during maintenance activities, shutdowns and turnaround events.
  • Develop temporary works schemes and specialist engineering solutions where required.

Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Act as the Civil & Structural Engineering Discipline Adviser, providing technical expertise and guidance.
  • Promote best practice, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the engineering discipline.
  • Implement systems, procedures and standards to ensure engineering quality, compliance and consistency.
  • Provide discipline input across all stages of project development, including front-end development, design assurance, procurement and project execution.
  • Support the Management of Change (MOC) process by providing engineering guidance and approvals.
  • Act as a discipline approver for engineering changes managed through site change control processes.
  • Monitor changes in legislation, standards and industry requirements and ensure compliance across the site.
  • Communicate, review and implement discipline standards and engineering best practices.
  • Attend and contribute to engineering discipline meetings.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and assess future applications within the business.
  • Develop and implement survey and inspection programmes covering structures, stacks, silos, containment systems, drainage systems, pits, roads, rail infrastructure and fireproofing systems.
  • Liaise with consultants and specialist contractors to develop engineering solutions for maintenance, turnaround and project activities.
  • Work closely with plant stakeholders to develop practical and cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Provide Civil & Structural engineering support for root cause investigations where required.
  • Support the development of maintenance strategies and identification of engineering risk areas.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of risk mitigation strategies.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

  • BEng, Master's degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer status preferred, or actively working towards chartership.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise within Civil & Structural engineering.
  • Strong design experience across a variety of industrial engineering applications.
  • Experience using structural and civil engineering design software such as Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Tedds, STAAD.Pro, Graitec or SAP2000.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of Advance Steel and Navisworks software.
  • Experience developing and implementing temporary works solutions.
  • Experience with temporary support systems, lifting structures, scaffold support systems and excavation support solutions.
  • Strong understanding of inspection, assessment and maintenance of industrial structures.
  • Knowledge of applicable engineering legislation, standards and industry best practice.
  • Experience supporting maintenance, turnaround and capital project activities.
  • IT literate with experience using AutoCAD, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of refinery, petrochemical or heavy industrial environments is advantageous.
