Job summary

OLG Recruitment seeks a Chartered Civil & Structural Engineer for a 12-month contract in the United Kingdom, with potential renewal. The role delivers discipline expertise across maintenance, projects and plant upgrades.

The candidate will use AutoCAD and structural software (Tekla, Staad.Pro, SAP2000) and liaise with consultants and plant owners to develop robust solutions. PAYE rate £33.44/hour.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or related discipline.
  • Chartered status preferred or in progress (ICE/IStructE).
  • Proven design and project experience in civil/structural engineering.
  • Proficient in recommended software and design principles.
  • Experience with temporary works and plant upgrades is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement surveys and inspection programs for structures.
  • Liaise with consultants and specialists to develop project solutions.
  • Gather information from plant owner to inform specific solutions.
  • Be proficient in civil/structural engineering techniques and design.
  • Design experience is essential; use of structural software is required.
  • Implement and oversee temporary works and retrofitting schemes.

Job description

Details:

Contract opportunity for an initial 12 months with the view to be reviewed afterwards.

Term = initial 12 months to be reviewed annually thereafter.

Rate = £33.44 per hour (potentially negotiable depending on experience)

Pay basis = PAYE

Primary Function:
  • Civil & Structural Engineer, providing discipline support & technical expertise, covering:
    • Maintenance, short- and long-term strategy
    • New projects, development, and implementation
    • Development of engineering solution for plant upgrade/modifications
    • Writing and updating refinery discipline standards
    • Plant and Turnaround support
    • Development of temporary work schemes
Main duties:
  • Develop and implement surveys and inspection program, covering, superstructures, stacks, silos, secondary containment structures, drains, sump, pits, road, rail track, fireproofing…
  • Liaise with consultants and specialists to develop specific solutions for projects, (small, medium, and large), maintenance and turnaround.
  • Liaise with plant owner to gather information for the development of specific solutions.
  • Be proficient in all, or most, of the aspects of Civil & Structural engineering techniques.
  • Design experience is essential.
  • Experience with specific structural and civil engineering design software is required, e.g Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Tedds, Stadd.Pro, Graitec, SAP2000…
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, conversant with Advance Steel, Navisworks
  • Experience in the implementation and design of temporary works solution, e.g. superlifts, temporary support for retrofitting of new equipment utilising existing structures, design scaffold supports, deep excavations
Secondary Roles:
  • Provide Discipline input into RCA’s, as required.
  • Act as a Discipline engineer contact for site & maintenance issues.
  • Aid in the development of maintenance strategies.
  • Aid in definition of discipline ‘risk’ areas & development of strategies
Minimum Requirements:
  • BEng or Master’s degree in engineering, or relevant discipline
  • IT literate with experience of AutoCAD, Outlook, Excel & Word
  • Advantageous but nor essential, charter or working toward chartership with a recognised organisation, ICE, IStructE
Critical Skills:
  • Chartered Structural or Civil Engineer (Or actively working towards chartered status)
  • Demonstrated technical expertise (to recognised professional level or equivalent).
  • Excellent communicator and presenter.
  • Wide industry / discipline knowledge and contacts.
  • Highly customer focussed.
  • Understands role and uses expertise to contribute to business improvement
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Decision maker & motivator
