Job description

Job Description

WSP’s Development Team is looking for a civil engineering specialist to contribute to concept studies, design packages, client engagement, stakeholder management, and delivery of technical approvals across the project life cycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to concept studies/strategies/drawing packages leading to planning applications, technical approval submissions and construction issues.
  • Participate in development projects across all sectors and clients.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Support technical capability development and career progression with the Edinburgh team.
  • Engage with clients, stakeholders, design team liaison and coordination with external partners.
  • Ensure tasks are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of highway design, drainage strategy and design, flood risk assessment and management, utility design and planning, and the Development Industry.
  • Appreciation of hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnics, building structures and construction design stages and procedures.
  • Ability to produce infrastructure master plans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations and construction drawings under supervision.
  • Understanding of design codes such as Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, Local Authority Design Guidance and experience preparing drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills; awareness of current technical and planning guidance on climate change and sustainability.
  • Proficiency with Info Drainage, Micro Drainage, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or PDS.
  • Experience liaising with clients, co-professionals, design teams and local authorities for technical approvals and statutory agreements.
  • Knowledge of planning, design, technical consent processes, adoption and contract procedures for provision of sewers, SuDS, highways and utilities.
  • Understanding of financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering projects.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance (SC).
  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience and working towards Chartered status.
