Job summary

Amey is offering a Civil Engineer Summer Intern position within the CAFA team of our Transport Infrastructure Business Unit, based in York. You will gain practical experience while contributing to real projects and may apply for our Graduate Programme after completing your studies.

During the 8–12 week internship starting July 2027, you’ll work in a dynamic, inclusive environment, with opportunities to develop core engineering skills on UK railway structures.

Qualifications

• Currently studying for a degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Full UK driving licence or working towards obtaining one.
• Personal Track Safety (PTS) requirement.
• Apply all safety requirements when carrying out work.
• Proactive attitude towards learning and development, with progression towards professional status.
• Enthusiasm for being part of a high-performing team and a drive for success.
• Team player.
• Respect for everyone.

Responsibilities

• Undertake numerical analysis and assessment calculations to determine the structural load carrying capacity of a variety of structures.
• Proposing strengthening and maintenance options.
• Planning and undertaking bridge inspections to confirm structural details and condition.
• Developing innovative solutions to enhance inspection and technical capabilities.
• Prepare technical drawings and reports.
