Job description

Job Title: Civil Engineer (Rail Earthworks & Drainage)

Location: Sonning (Reading area), with initial work in Swindon

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum

Contract Type: Fulltime, Permanent

We're seeking a Civil Engineer, preferably with rail experience, to support a major infrastructure project focused on earthworks and drainage across the western rail network.

The role involves involvement throughout the full project lifecycle—from design to delivery and close-out. The position starts in Swindon during pre-construction and transitions to site-based work in Sonning once construction begins in 2025.

Key Responsibilities of the Civil Engineer:
  1. Support design development to ensure buildability.
  2. Plan access and construction methods with the supply chain.
  3. Liaise with stakeholders during pre-construction phases.
  4. Coordinate temporary site facilities with land agents.
  5. Assist with procurement and supply chain selection.
  6. Identify public interface risks and support mitigation planning.
  7. Lead mobilization of site facilities and team.
  8. Manage subcontractors and on-site operations.
  9. Oversee engineering and quality throughout the build.
  10. Work under NEC4 contract terms.
  11. Promote health, safety, and environmental standards on site.
  12. Contribute to assessing and tracking project viability.
What We're Looking For:
  1. Degree in Civil Engineering.
  2. ICE Graduate, Incorporated, or Chartered Membership.
  3. SMSTS and CSCS card required.
  4. PTS certification preferred.
