Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join their highways and drainage design team in the UK. You will take ownership of diverse development projects, delivering detailed highway and drainage designs and coordinating with clients and authorities.

You will work on feasibility through to detailed design, developing technical expertise and supporting junior engineers. The role offers professional development and a clear route towards senior engineering responsibilities within

Qualifications

• HND, BEng, MEng or MSc in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in civil engineering design, ideally within a consultancy environment.
• Experience designing highway and drainage schemes, including S38, S278 and SuDS.
• Good knowledge of relevant UK design standards, technical guidance and approval processes.
• Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D or equivalent engineering design packages.
• The ability to manage your own workload and coordinate multiple projects.
• Experience communicating with clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary design teams.
• An interest in progressing towards ICE accreditation or continuing your professional development.

Responsibilities

• Producing detailed highway and drainage designs for a range of development projects.
• Designing foul and surface water drainage systems in accordance with Sewers for Adoption, Building Regulations and the SuDS Manual.
• Preparing S38 and S278 highway designs in line with DMRB, Manual for Streets and relevant local authority requirements.
• Taking responsibility for projects from initial feasibility and concept design through to detailed design and delivery.
• Producing technical drawings, calculations, design reports and supporting documentation.
• Liaising with developers, architects, local authorities and contractors to coordinate designs and resolve technical queries.
• Reviewing design work and providing technical support and guidance to junior engineers.
• Supporting project programming, resource allocation and delivery deadlines.
• Assisting with fee proposals, tenders and identifying opportunities for additional work.
• Attending client meetings and contributing to the development of long-term professional relationships.
• Using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and other relevant design software to deliver accurate engineering solutions.
