Job summary

ScottishPower is seeking a Civils Engineer (Development) to inspect substation construction from 11kV to 33kV across Wirral SPEN sites. You’ll ensure works follow approved plans and SPEN specifications while advising internal design teams.

You’ll mentor graduates, manage a 6-month inspection work bank, and help deliver projects valued around £25m annually, maintaining safety and quality across the regional programme.

Qualifications

  • NVQ, HND or bachelor's in construction-related subject (surveying, civil/structural eng, construction management).
  • Membership of RICS/CABE/CIOB highly valued.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience with strong design and quality focus.
  • Full clean driving licence required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular site inspections of building work at various stages.
  • Verify works align with approved plans and SPEN specs; provide design assistance.
  • Review SPEN Civil specs and as-built documentation for records.
  • Assess financial applications to ensure alignment with on-site works.
  • Maintain high-quality, consistent technical output across projects.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders to support project delivery.
  • Promote safety culture and ensure compliance with safety legislation.
  • Mentor and train graduates and trainees to build capability.
  • Manage 6-month work bank of site inspections for Primary Projects (up to 33kV; ~£25m p.a.).

Using your professional judgement and technical expertise, you will provide design and construction guidance to internal Design functions and external Framework Contractors.
