Job description

Our client is an established, leading 5-star housebuilder delivering high-quality residential schemes throughout the East Midlands. Supported by an extensive, secure land bank and an exceptional industry reputation, they are looking to onboard a Civil Engineer to augment and strengthen their regional technical department.

This opportunity is well-suited to an engineer already established within mainstream residential housebuilding, or an engineer from a residential-led civil engineering consultancy looking to make a career-defining transition client-side. Applications are welcomed from established Civil Engineers or ambitious Assistant Engineers ready to take the next step in their career progression.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and coordinate infrastructure, highways and drainage design packages across residential developments in the East Midlands.
  • Manage external civil engineering consultants, reviewing technical drawings, calculations and specifications to ensure buildability and cost effectiveness.
  • Progress statutory section agreements, including Section 38 (highways adoption), Section 104 (sewer adoption) and Section 278 (highway works) approvals.
  • Provide early-stage engineering due diligence for land acquisition appraisals, identifying technical constraints, cut/fill balances and flood risk considerations.
  • Secure technical approvals and discharge engineering-related planning conditions with local authorities and water companies.
  • Liaise closely with commercial, site delivery and technical teams to resolve on-site engineering challenges promptly.
  • Review ground investigation reports, remediation strategies and foundation designs in conjunction with geotechnical consultants.
  • Coordinate service utilities strategies, substation allocations and statutory undertaker connections across live schemes.
About You
  • Proven civil engineering background within a volume housebuilder or a residential-led civil engineering consultancy.
  • Practical understanding of highway geometry, residential estate layouts, foul and surface water drainage and SuDS design.
  • Working knowledge of Section 38, Section 104 and Section 278 legal and technical adoption procedures.
  • Solid capability in interrogating engineering drawings and consultant models (familiarity with AutoCAD is advantageous).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to liaise with consultants, highway authorities, water companies and internal project teams.
  • Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering (HNC, HND, BEng, BSc or equivalent) or equivalent industry experience.
