Job summary

Fowler Welch is seeking experienced HGV Class 1 Drivers for its chilled distribution operation based in Newton Abbot. You will drive refrigerated vehicles to Local and Regional Distribution Centres, Farms and Packhouses across the UK.

Shifts run Friday to Tuesday (start between 05:00–07:00). There is a guaranteed annual salary of £40,580, an average hourly rate of £15.61, and a guaranteed 50 hours per week with enhanced overtime rates. Training and recognition schemes are offered.

Qualifications

• LGV Class 1 Licence and CPC required.
• Knowledge of Road Transport Directive and drivers’ hours.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
• Effective workload prioritisation to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Carry out chilled distribution deliveries to local and regional centres, farms and packhouses.
• No self tipping; loading/unloading by stores.
• Collect equipment or returns from customer locations and bring back to site.
• Report delays or delivery issues to the Transport team at shift start.
• Complete paperwork and ensure PODs are signed and returned.
• Follow health, safety and hygiene procedures.
• Manage working time in line with the Road Transport Directive and tachograph rules.
• Perform daily vehicle checks and report defects; take responsibility for your unit and trailer.
• Maintain professional behaviour, appearance and customer service at all times.
