An experienced Children’s Social Worker is required to join a Child in Need (CIN) team, supporting children, young people and families to achieve safe, sustainable outcomes. You will manage a varied caseload involving children assessed as being in need of support, completing thorough assessments, developing effective plans and reviewing progress in line with statutory requirements. The role will involve building positive relationships with children and families, identifying strengths and risks, and ensuring that the child’s voice remains central to all decision-making.
Key responsibilities include undertaking assessments and visits, preparing reports, coordinating multi-agency meetings, and working collaboratively with education, health, early help, safeguarding and other partner services. You will assess changing levels of need and risk, respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, and take action when circumstances escalated. You will also contribute to legal and statutory processes where required, maintain accurate case records, and ensure all work is completed within relevant legislation, policies and professional standards.
Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England, together with relevant post-qualification experience in children and families social care. Experience of working within a CIN, safeguarding or statutory children’s services environment is essential, as is a sound understanding of the Children Act, child protection procedures, assessment frameworks and multi-agency practice. You should be confident managing competing priorities, making evidence-based decisions and communicating effectively with children, families and professionals. A commitment to strengths-based, relationship-focused practice, continuous learning and improving outcomes for children is essential. The ability to travel to visit children and families across the area is also required.
