Children's Residential Team Leader - Children's Residential Home

Salary : £12.60 per hour plus £60 sleep in rate (2on 4off shift pattern)

Locations available: Tarleton, Southport, Rainford, Garstang, Aughton

Exceptional Care are seeking a Senior Support Worker to support young people on a 1:1 or 2:1 staffing ratio, in a Residential setting with relevant experience with children and young people i.e. youth work, residential, sports coach, mentoring etc (paid or volunteering).

During your duties you will be expected to lead and plan your team whilst on shift and take responsibility for supervision of staff.

Who are Exceptional Care?

Exceptional Care is a therapeutic children’s service providing care and support to children and young people aged 8-17, from complex backgrounds, who display challenging behaviour and EBD. The service is an independent social care organisation with multiple residential units across the whole of the North West.

Exceptional Care believes that consistency in care is paramount to children/young people with complex needs, to this end we are committed to developing and maintaining good communicative relationships with the child/young person.

Exceptional Care use a systemic therapeutic approach to support the nurture and care of our children. The systemic approach is rooted in attachment theory and uses trauma informed approaches. We are currently introducing a comprehensive framework of assessment and outcome monitoring using the Secure Base Model.

Tasks

Your role as a Senior Residential Child Care Worker:

You will be the lead practitioner on shift, mentoring and supporting new team members, reporting to Higher Management, conducting supervisions and updating on progress or difficulties in relation to staff or young people and to advise if management intervention is required.

Your role will be to act as a Key worker where necessary to a specified individual young person, taking on responsibility for specified areas of care and support. This includes ensuring all medical needs are met and supporting the young person to advocate his/her own needs and wishes.

You will provide advice, assistance and support to young people from complex backgrounds, with High Risk Challenging Behaviour, EBD and Learning/Behavioural Difficulties, attending to their practical, physical and emotional needs. You will provide a high standard of care and support, in a professional manner, to vulnerable young people, with challenging behaviour and emotional behavioural difficulties.

You will:

  1. Assist the Manager and Deputies in ensuring that each young person has their needs met through effective assessment and care planning.
  2. Review and monitor care plans/contribute to review reports as directed.
  3. Support and participate in young people’s social, educational/recreational activities in line with care plans, trips out and holidays.
  4. Liaise with other agencies/professionals as necessary in conjunction with Managers.
  5. Record information about young people and ensure communication with staff members is effective.
  6. Delegate written tasks and ensure the recordings are factual, well recorded and signed off by you as a team leader.
  7. Promote good practice in the team in accordance with the home’s SOP and in line with all Company policies and procedures.
Requirements

Successful Candidates:

  • NVQ Level 3 or 4 Children and Young Peoples Workforce or equivalent
  • 2 years’ experience supporting young people in a children’s residential setting
  • Full UK Manual Driving Licence - preferred
