Job summary

Acorns Children’s Hospice in Birmingham is seeking a Children’s Palliative Clinical Lead to oversee a large multidisciplinary team and develop programmes of care for children and young people with complex health needs.

You will supervise nursing and support staff, provide direct patient care, and drive improvements in end-of-life care, symptom management and family communication. This role requires registration as a nurse and a commitment to safeguarding and compassionate care.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with UK eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Non-medical prescriber or willing to undertake.
  • Experience of palliative care is essential.
  • Sound clinical skills including assessment and IV therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise a large multi-disciplinary team of nursing staff, students and support workers.
  • Coordinate the clinical area and participate in direct patient care.
  • Demonstrate expertise in symptom management and end-of-life care for children and young people.
  • Develop and implement new initiatives to advance clinical practice within the hospice.
  • Promote communication with children and young people, supporting their wishes and concerns.

Job description

Acorns Children's Hospice are looking for a Children's Palliative Clinical Lead to join the team in our Hospice in Birmingham. As Clinical Lead, you will manage a multi-disciplinary team, develop programmes of care and provide nursing care to children and young people with a range of complex health needs, life limiting or life-threatening conditions.

At Acorns Children’s Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care for children, and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and we support their families through every step of their journey, and through transition. As Children’s Palliative Clinical Lead, you will:

  • Manage and be responsible for the supervision and development of a large multi-disciplinary team consisting of all grades of nursing staff, students and support workers
  • Manage and co-ordinate the clinical area, participating in direct patient care and supervision of staff.
  • Demonstrate expertise in symptom management and end of life care including after death care, to support staff to develop skills
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new initiatives and contribute to the advancement of clinical practice within the hospice
  • Promote communication with the children and young people, encouraging them to express their wishes and concerns to their best ability (this may include non-verbal, electronic or alternative communication methods)
About You
  • Registered Nurse
  • Non-medical prescriber (or willing to undertake)
  • Experience of palliative care
  • Ability to demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical skills to include IV therapy, patient assessment skills, airway management and to develop further skills as required.

You need to be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role.
