Job summary

Purosearch Ltd is seeking a Children’s Residential Deputy Manager in Accrington to support the Registered Manager in running a children’s home. The role covers budgeting, policy compliance and leading a care team to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.

You will oversee staff development, training and safeguarding, while ensuring regulatory standards and safety procedures are followed. A pro-active, resilient and adaptable candidate will thrive in this role.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children and young people, ideally in residential care.
• Experience supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs.
• Previous deputy manager or senior role in residential childcare is desirable.
• Experience in line managing staff, including supervision.
• Strong knowledge of child protection and safeguarding.
• Knowledge of Children Act and Homes Regulations is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support and work alongside the Registered Manager in the effective management of the children’s home.
• Support with the management of the home’s budget and resources.
• Lead, support and develop the staff team to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.
• Support staff development through supervision, appraisal and training.
• Assist with development and review of placement plans, risk assessments and positive handling plans.
• Ensure the home operates in accordance with its Statement of Purpose and Function.
• Promote positive outcomes through a therapeutic, activity-based approach.
• Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and staff comply with legislation and policies.
• Maintain knowledge of relevant regulations and quality standards.
• Support the Registered Manager in addressing Ofsted recommendations and actions.
• Ensure all significant events and changes are reported.

Location: Accrington Salary: From £40,000 per annum Hours: Monday to Friday, with flexibility to cover shifts when required Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities

• Support and work alongside the Registered Manager in the effective management of the children’s home.

• Assist with the development and review of placement plans, risk assessments and positive handling plans.
• Ensure the home operates in accordance with its Statement of Purpose and Function.
• Promote positive outcomes for each young person through a therapeutic and activity-based approach.
• Ensure staff understand and comply with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
• Maintain a strong understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and SCCIF.
• Support the Registered Manager in addressing recommendations and actions arising from Ofsted inspections.
• Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed in line with relevant legislation and local authority procedures.
• Ensure significant events, incidents, important changes and physical interventions are appropriately reported.
• Work closely with social workers, families and other multi-agency professionals.
• Ensure children’s individual social, emotional, psychological, educational, cultural, physical and healthcare needs are met.
• Support the day-to-day running of the home and work on shift when required.
• Ensure health and safety, fire regulations and quality assurance requirements are maintained.
• Monitor and address actions arising from Regulation 44 reports and internal quality assurance processes.
• Act as a positive role model for both staff and young people.
• Participate in the on-call system.
• Ensure all mandatory training is completed within required timescales.
• Promote a positive, safe and nurturing environment for children and young people.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience working with children and young people, ideally within a children’s residential care setting.
• Experience supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs.
• Previous experience in a Deputy Manager or Senior role within residential childcare is desirable.
• Experience of line managing staff, including conducting supervisions, is desirable.
• Level 3 Qualification in Children’s Residential Care or equivalent.
• Level 5 Qualification in Leadership & Management for Children’s Services, or willingness to work towards it, is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of child protection and safeguarding.
• Understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people.
• Knowledge of the Children Act and Children’s Homes Regulations is desirable.
• Understanding of therapeutic approaches to childcare is desirable.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build positive relationships and support positive change.
• Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
• Calm, approachable, adaptable and non-judgemental approach.
