Position

An opportunity has arisen for the role of Health Care Support Worker to join our Children’s Health service dedicated to improving outcomes for children and families within South Ayrshire.

What You Will Do

You will provide enhanced support and contribute to the high-quality service by assisting the Health Visiting and School Nursing teams. You will have a key role in the integrated early years, children and families community nursing team promoting health outcomes for children within the home and community environment. You will work closely with families which encompasses the antenatal period through a child’s early years and school years. Supporting in areas such as Nurturing; Bonding; Attachment; Containment; Communication; Child Safety; Health Promotion; Feeding and Nutrition including intensive breastfeeding support; and Peep delivery. They will also support the universal Primary 1 screening delivered by the School Nursing service.

The role will provide targeted support for parents/carers and families who are identified by the Named Nurse within the specific locality. They will follow their plan of care using agreed service pathways and protocols, reporting progress to the Named Nurse for the child/family.

You will work as part of South Ayrshire’s Children’s Health to provide accessible, appropriate, culturally sensitive and effective services responding to the assessed needs of the families whilst working in partnership with care providers and agencies who are also supporting families.

You will be expected to deliver care in the home setting, clinic and community environments flexibly to meet needs and circumstance.

Knowledge, Training And/or Experience Required To Do The Job

Educational attainment at SPQ level 7/8 or working towards this.

Experience of working with children and families in the community

Knowledge of health and social care services available for children and families.

Knowledge of the issues that can impact on the health and wellbeing of children and their families.

Ability to work on own initiative and unsupervised.

Good communication skills (verbal and written)

Good interpersonal skills

Ability to work as part of a team.

IT skills

Hours: 29.7 per week

UK Driving Licence/Car Ownership

UK Car licence/Car ownership is essential to this role.
