Responsible for the assessment of needs, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care for clients admitted on the ward.
Supervise the work of junior staff, ensuring the highest possible standard of nursing care in accordance with the Policies and Procedures of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, the Mental Health Act, and all other legislation, e.g., The Mental Capacity Act.
The post holder will have the role of the Treatment Area Nurse and will be part of a multi-disciplinary team which provides ECT to service users. You will be based in the Health Support Team Oldham and work in the ECT department but may be required to work in other environments where ECT can be administered. The post holder will be providing and explaining information and advice to patients and relatives/carers about ECT, its effects, and reasons for prescription.
Your main duties will focus on the admission and treatment phases of the ECT procedure, acting as the local point of contact for the organisation, operation, and delivery of the Tameside ECT clinic.
To be actively involved in developing team-based nursing, assuming responsibilities of the named nurse in assessing, planning, and implementing a nursing care programme for individual clients within your team.
• Assess clients, plan, and implement nursing care programmes to meet their needs, referring to other agencies as appropriate.
• Evaluate and modify nursing care according to the Care Programme Approach and facilitate discharge planning.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings and contribute to clinical decisions.
• Manage caseloads effectively, utilizing resources efficiently, and ensure unresolved issues are addressed and referred appropriately.
• Keep accurate, timely professional records, maintaining confidentiality as per Trust policy.
• Assist in developing service standards and participate in clinical audits.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of new initiatives based on research.
• Engage in clinical supervision.

Ensure the environment is ready for patient treatment and all staff have checked their equipment.
Conduct pre-ECT handover, providing a psychiatric history, current status, consent, medical concerns, medication, and previous ECT treatments.
Prepare patients, ensuring nil by mouth, correct identification, and functioning emergency equipment.
Check the Thymatron ECT machine and impedance.
Uphold legal requirements, including consent and Mental Health Act compliance.
Complete pre-treatment checks and inform patients and carers.
Operate ECT machines safely under medical instruction.
Understand ECT standards, guidelines, and policies.
Coordinate treatment plans, provide information, and ensure the patient is involved in their care.
