Job summary

Smarkets is seeking its inaugural Head of Security Engineering to build and scale a DevSecOps program across its cloud-native trading platform. You will own security posture, risk management, and incident response, reporting to senior leadership and the board.

You'll partner with Infrastructure and Engineering to embed security into the SDLC, define pragmatic strategies, and ensure regulatory expectations (CFTC) are reflected in practice while enabling rapid product delivery.

Qualifications

• Hands-on security engineering in cloud-native, high-growth environments
• Experience with securing financial/exchange infrastructure preferred
• Strong communication to execs and regulators
• Understanding of risk-based security and SDLC integration
• Proficiency with major cloud providers and container security tools

Responsibilities

• Establish and evolve security capabilities within Infrastructure and Engineering
• Own regulatory engagement (CFTC) and external expectations
• Define pragmatic security strategy across cloud, apps, trading systems, and corporate IT
• Lead incident response, investigations, root-cause analysis and remediation actions
• Embed security into the SDLC (SAST/DAST/SCA) in CI/CD without slowing delivery
• Implement controls across AWS/Azure/GCP, Kubernetes, containers, IaC
• Develop security monitoring across applications, APIs, and infrastructure
• Maintain security policies and documentation for regulatory exams and audits
• Partner with engineers to foster a security‑oriented culture
