Job summary

Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Director of Safety & Patient Safety Specialist to lead the organisation's patient safety strategy and create a proactive safety culture. You will provide executive leadership across patient safety, risk management, learning from deaths and complaints, working with executive teams and clinical colleagues to drive improvements.

Qualifications

• Senior-level experience in patient safety, quality, governance or risk management.
• Extensive knowledge of NHS patient safety policy, strategy and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience leading large-scale organisational change and service improvement.
• Expertise in systems-based approaches to safety, incident investigation and human factors.
• Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience presenting complex information to Boards and executives.
• Ability to analyse complex data and translate findings into strategic actions and improvements.
• Experience of working at Board or system level.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of the Trust's patient safety strategy.
• Provide executive leadership for PSIRF, Duty of Candour and Learning from Deaths programmes.
• Drive improvement through systems thinking, human factors and Just Culture.
• Provide expert advice to the Board and senior leaders on patient safety risks.
• Ensure robust systems to identify, investigate and learn from incidents and complaints.
• Oversee patient safety intelligence, reporting and organisational learning processes.
• Lead the Complaints and PALS functions to drive meaningful improvement.
• Collaborate with patients, carers, regulators and partners to improve safety outcomes.
