InterContinental London O2 is seeking a proactive Chief Engineer to lead maintenance operations, manage budgets, and drive energy efficiency across a five‑star hotel on the Greenwich Peninsula. You will oversee renovations, safety compliance, and liaise with teams to uphold the highest service standards.

The ideal candidate has proven leadership in luxury hotel maintenance, strong knowledge of building services, and a commitment to green practices and guest satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership to manage a maintenance team in a luxury hotel.
• Strong understanding of budgeting and cost control in a hotel environment.
• Experience leading green initiatives in large properties.

Responsibilities

• Lead planned and reactive maintenance services.
• Prepare and monitor the annual departmental operating budget with focus on energy management.
• Lead renovations and projects, negotiate contracts, ensure timely completion within budget.
• Oversee Health & Safety, including compliance and risk assessments.
• Address guest concerns promptly and efficiently.
• Collaborate with other departments to improve property maintenance standards.
• Order parts and supplies, minimize waste, support green initiatives.
• Act as property leader for the brand's 'Green Engage' program.
• Coach and support the team to maintain high standards.

A bit about what you will do...

The Chief Engineer in our luxurious hotel leads from the front and takes a proactive, hands-on approach, overseeing all aspects of maintenance operations, ensuring excellent standards are maintained throughout our luxurious hotel creating a welcoming and safe environment that consistently exceeds guests' expectations.

• Lead and coordinate the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance services.
• Prepare and monitor the annual departmental operating budget, with a focus on energy management, preventive maintenance and capital planning.
• Lead hotel renovations and other projects, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely completion within budget.
• Manage Health & Safety, including statutory compliance, risk assessment, permits to work and safe working practices.
• Address any guest concerns promptly, attentively and efficiently.
• Liaise closely with other hotel departments and wider management team to support the continual improvement of property maintenance standards.
• Maintain and order parts and supplies in a timely and efficient manner while minimising waste and supporting "green" initiatives.
• Act as property leader for the brand's 'Green Engage' program.
• Coach, train, and support the team to provide consistently high standards while continually looking to improve.
• Perform Duty Manager shifts as required.

• A smart and professional appearance.
• Proven track record in a similar position within a 5-star hotel.
• Recognised electrical or engineering qualification and specialised expertise in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry fields.
• Excellent understanding of Health and Safety regulations and best practices.
• Strong knowledge of the operation, control and maintenance of building services plant and systems.
• Previous experience using maintenance management software and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent standard of English, both written and spoken.
• Pool plant operator qualification preferred.
