Sofitel London-Heathrow is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer to lead maintenance operations at a prestigious 5-star hotel connected to Terminal 5. You will oversee a large team, coordinate both planned and reactive maintenance projects, and drive safety and quality standards across engineering functions.

The role requires strong leadership, excellent English communication, budget oversight, and a proactive, hands-on approach to ensure guest satisfaction and smooth hotel operations.

What you will do

Assistant Chief Engineers in our luxurious hotel take a proactive, hands-on approach, assisting in overseeing all aspects of maintenance operations to ensure excellent standards are maintained, to create a welcoming and safe environment that consistently exceeds guests’ expectations.

• Lead and manage the maintenance team, including assigning tasks, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
• Coordinate the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance services.
• Manage the maintenance budget, including tracking expenses, forecasting future needs, and optimising resource allocation.
• Oversee hotel renovations and other projects, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely completion within budget.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices in maintenance operations.
• Collaborate with other departments to support the overall operation of the hotel and address maintenance-related issues.
• Maintain and order parts and supplies in a timely and efficient manner while minimising waste and supporting “green” initiatives.
• Address guest concerns promptly, attentively and efficiently.
• Coach, train, and support the team to provide consistently high standards while continually seeking improvement.

• Strong leadership skills with proven experience in managing a team.

• A smart and professional appearance.
• Proven track record in a similar position within a 5-star hotel.
• Recognised electrical or engineering qualification and specialised expertise in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry fields.
• Pool plant operator qualification preferred.
• Excellent understanding of Health and Safety regulations and best practices.
• Previous experience using maintenance management software and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent standard of English, both written and spoken.
