Job summary

Sofitel London-Heathrow is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer to lead a proactive maintenance team at our luxury hotel. You will oversee all maintenance operations, coordinate planned and reactive services, manage budgets, and drive safety and quality standards across engineering functions.

Ideal candidates will have strong leadership, excellent English, and a proven track record in a 5-star hotel maintenance environment.

Qualifications

• Recognised electrical or engineering qualification and specialised expertise in plumbing, electrical, mechanical and carpentry.
• Pool plant operator qualification preferred.
• Excellent understanding of Health and Safety regulations and best practices.
• Experience using maintenance management software and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the maintenance team, assign tasks and evaluate performance.
• Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance services.
• Manage the maintenance budget, track expenses and forecast needs.
• Oversee renovations, negotiate contracts and ensure timely completion within budget.
• Ensure safety compliance and collaborate with other departments.
• Maintain parts and supplies and support green initiatives.
• Address guest concerns promptly and coach the team for continuous improvement.

A bit about what you will do...

Assistant Chief Engineers in our luxurious hotel take a proactive, hands-on approach, assisting in overseeing all aspects of maintenance operations to ensure excellent standards are maintained, to create a welcoming and safe environment that consistently exceeds guests’ expectations.

• Lead and manage the maintenance team, including assigning tasks, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
• Coordinate the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance services.
• Manage the maintenance budget, including tracking expenses, forecasting future needs, and optimising resource allocation.
• Oversee hotel renovations and other projects, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely completion within budget.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices in maintenance operations.
• Collaborate with other departments to support the overall operation of the hotel and address maintenance-related issues.
• Maintain and order parts and supplies in a timely and efficient manner while minimising waste and supporting “green” initiatives.
• Address guest concerns promptly, attentively and efficiently.
• Coach, train, and support the team to provide consistently high standards while continually seeking improvement.
