Job summary

Apex Systems US is seeking a Chief Engineer to provide executive technical leadership for a mission-critical data centre environment in Greater London. The role acts as senior authority to assure safe operation, maintenance and resilience of electrical and mechanical infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical bias, plus experience in Tier III/IV data centres and cooling systems, with responsibility for incident response and contractor management, while mentoring

Qualifications

  • HVAP or AP qualification preferred.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
  • HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3, degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • IOSH or equivalent H&S qualification.
  • Experience in data centres or high-availability environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Ensure maximum uptime and resilience of the facility.
  • Lead incident response, troubleshooting and root cause analysis activities.
  • Review SOPs, MOPs, EOPs and switching schedules.
  • Manage critical maintenance activities and shutdowns.
  • Oversee specialist contractors and service providers.
  • Support compliance, auditing and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely in line with site procedures and industry standards.
  • Mentor and develop engineering teams.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a highly capable Chief Engineer to provide technical leadership for a mission-critical data centre environment. The successful candidate will act as the senior technical authority for the site, ensuring the safe operation, maintenance and resilience of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.


This role is ideal for an experienced Critical Facilities Engineer, Shift Leader, HVAP or Chief Engineer with a strong electrical bias and a solid understanding of cooling infrastructure within a Tier III or Tier IV environment.


Key Responsibilities


  • Provide technical leadership across all critical electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Ensure maximum uptime and operational resilience of the facility.

  • Lead incident response, troubleshooting and root cause analysis activities.

  • Review and approve SOPs, MOPs, EOPs and switching schedules.

  • Manage critical maintenance activities and shutdowns.

  • Oversee specialist contractors and service providers.

  • Support compliance, auditing and reporting requirements.

  • Ensure all work is carried out safely in line with site procedures and industry standards.

  • Mentor and develop engineering teams.

Desired Qualifications
