Job summary

PRS is seeking an experienced Shift Technician to join a critical facilities team in a major data centre. You will carry out planned and reactive maintenance across M&E systems to keep the site safe, compliant and operational 24/7.

The role involves working within a dedicated engineering team, monitoring plant, responding to faults, and ensuring UPS, generators, HVAC and LV distribution operate reliably. A pro-active, safety-focused mindset is essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in data centre or critical environment is essential.
  • Electrical or mechanical engineering background preferred.
  • Qualified with NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC or HND or equivalent.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Shift Technician to join an established critical facilities team operating within a major data centre environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically or mechanically biased engineer looking to develop their career within a highly critical, technology-led facility. You will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across critical infrastructure, ensuring the site remains safe, compliant and operational 24/7.

The Role

As a Shift Technician, you will work as part of a dedicated engineering team responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the facility.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across critical M&E systems
  • Monitoring and operating critical infrastructure and plant
  • Responding to faults, alarms and equipment failures
  • Completing daily plant room and equipment inspections
  • Operating and monitoring BMS/CMMS systems
  • Supporting electrical and mechanical maintenance activities
  • Working on LV electrical distribution systems
  • Supporting maintenance of UPS, generators, switchgear and associated critical power systems
  • Working with HVAC, cooling and chilled water systems
  • Completing planned maintenance in accordance with site procedures and schedules
  • Following SOPs, EOPs, RAMS and Permit to Work procedures
  • Supporting isolations, LOTO and safe systems of work
  • Escalating faults and incidents appropriately
  • Maintaining accurate engineering and maintenance records
  • Working closely with contractors and specialist service providers
  • Participating in emergency response and business continuity procedures
  • Ensuring all works are completed in line with health & safety and compliance requirements
About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience within a data centre, critical environment, commercial building or industrial facility
  • An electrical or mechanical engineering background
  • Relevant technical qualification such as NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC/HND or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of critical M&E infrastructure
  • Experience with UPS, generators, HVAC, BMS or LV distribution would be highly advantageous
  • Good fault-finding and problem-solving ability
  • Experience working to strict H&S and compliance procedures
  • Ability to work effectively within a 24/7 shift environment
  • Strong communication and reporting skills
  • A proactive approach to maintenance and operational reliability
