Qualifications

Job description

Cabot Corporation is one of the leading global specialty chemicals and performance materials companies producing a range of chemicals across 21 countries worldwide. Our facility in Barry (Sully, Vale of Glamorgan), established in 1992, is a manufacturing site producing hydrophilic and treated Fumed Silica in collaboration with Dow.

We are currently recruiting for a Chemical Process Technician within our Operations team. The successful candidate will learn to safely control chemical processes, manage contractor and technician activities via permit to work systems, troubleshoot process issues, and ensure adherence to safety, health, and environmental standards (SHE), as well as maintain efficiency, quality, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Contribute to team performance based on site metrics such as safety, quality, process safety management, and permit compliance.
  • Operate and monitor FMO processes via the DCS control panel, ensuring process safety and environmental compliance.
  • Perform troubleshooting and follow Response Flow Checklists to address process deviations, escalating issues as needed, and record data in logs and reporting systems.
  • Ensure safety of maintenance technicians and contractors, maintaining process integrity and a safe working environment.
  • Assign preventative maintenance tasks, identify and raise work orders, and operate process equipment within specified parameters.
  • Meet customer quality requirements through appropriate process adjustments.
  • Participate in root cause analyses, FMEAs, PSSRs, HAZOPs, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implement Kaizen and other manufacturing improvement actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager.

What You Will Bring to Cabot

  • Previous experience in chemical process operation is preferred.
  • GCSE level C or above in English, Maths, Science (Chemistry or Physics) – essential.
  • City and Guilds Level 1 or 2 in Process Technology or equivalent – desirable.
  • Experience with DCS plant operation, mainframe software, and ASPEN – preferred.
  • Basic mechanical understanding is a plus.
