Job description

Job Summary

To carry out the preparation and cooking of meals for patients and staff, ensuring high standards of quality and food safety are maintained at all times. Post holders will ensure a high standard of service delivery related to catering functions. They will work with regard to food safety legislation and follow the department's HACCP procedures. The role requires compliance with budgets and nutrition standards to provide good quality food for patients, staff, and visitors.

Main Duties of the Job
  1. Organise and plan own work according to work schedules and rotas.
  2. Prepare and cook food according to planned menus, using standard recipes at prescribed times, including special diets.
  3. Exercise portion control following recipe guidelines to achieve correct nutritional values.
  4. Prepare food for patients as required and collaborate with Catering Managers to assist with referrals of special diets from the Dietetic department.
  5. Assist in ordering kitchen supplies in liaison with the Store Manager and Head Chef.
  6. Assist in the preparation, weighing, and portioning of all food.
  7. Be familiar with and trained in relevant hygiene and safety legislation related to kitchen areas, attending refresher training as arranged.
  8. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of working areas and equipment, observing good hygienic practices as per the health service catering hygiene schedule. Oversee cleaning and maintenance concerns with the kitchen porter.
  9. Adhere to all safe catering practices.
  10. Support in the welfare and training of catering assistants and students, and assist in the induction of new staff.

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Food
