Job summary

BT Group is seeking a Network and Firewall (Checkpoint) Specialist to join the Networks division in Glasgow or Birmingham. You will manage complex firewall infrastructure, ensure 24/7 network security, and collaborate with senior stakeholders to balance risk and business needs.

The role requires handling on-call duties and delivering secure, reliable connectivity for BT’s estate, applications, and customers, with a focus on proactive risk management and rapid incident response.

Qualifications

• Core firewall expertise on Cisco and Checkpoint devices.
• Strong experience with routers, switches, load balancers.
• Excellent fault-finding across the network security estate.
• Experience connecting diverse technologies, networks, systems and applications.
• Understanding of end-to-end security assessment from user access to server compliance.
• Background in large-scale network environments and IT operations.
• Ability to communicate technical requirements to diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Ensure operational service delivery and SLA adherence.
• Proactively identify and mitigate security risks.
• Lead incident management with clear stakeholder communication.
• Restore lost services and perform fault investigations to prevent recurrence.
• Deploy and coordinate mitigations across the estate.
• Make decisions under ambiguity and drive improvements.
• Deliver new infrastructure tech into BT data centres and define best practices.
