Job summary

Mencap is seeking an Assistant Shop Manager for our Bury The Rock Shop. The role is permanent, 37.5 hours per week, on a 7‑day rota. You will help drive sales, manage staff and volunteers, and ensure excellent store presentation while upholding Mencap values.

You should have experience as an assistant manager or supervisor, with budgeting experience; charity retail background is preferred. Expect occasional travel for meetings and store growth.

Qualifications

• Must have experience managing a retail team.
• Flexibility with hours including weekends and Bank Holidays.

Responsibilities

• Help develop in-store systems and promote donations and sales to maximise profits.
• Represent Mencap as a charitable organisation and uphold its values.
• Ensure stock is generated locally and donors.
• Sign up donors to Gift Aid and maximise income.
• Achieve profit targets by maximising sales and managing costs.
• Maintain store presentation to a high standard.
• Build an effective volunteer team and provide training and appraisals.
• Oversee all financial and cash handling and health and safety.
