Job summary

A leading educational recruitment agency is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide essential 1:1 support to a teenage male student with Autism in Barnet. The role includes managing challenging behavior, supporting personal care, and working collaboratively with teachers and professionals. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 tailored support throughout the school day.
  • Support with personal care in line with the student’s individual care plan.
  • Manage and respond to challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Support access to the curriculum and encourage engagement.
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and external professionals.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and planning.

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to work within our Additional Resource Provision (ARP) in a secondary school in Barnet. The role involves providing 1:1 support to a teenage male student with Autism. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the student’s learning, emotional regulation and personal development within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 tailored support throughout the school day.
  • Support with personal care in line with the student’s individual care plan.
  • Manage and respond to challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Support access to the curriculum and encourage engagement in learning.
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and external professionals.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and planning.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Experience working with children or young people with ASD and complex needs.
  • Confidence in supporting challenging behaviour calmly and consistently.
  • A patient, empathetic, and firm approach.
  • Willingness to support with personal care.
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships.
Desirable
  • Previous experience in an ARP, SEN school or similar setting.
  • Training in behaviour management, Team Teach or equivalent.
