The Wellcome Sanger Institute in the United Kingdom is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow or Senior Postdoctoral Fellow to develop and apply statistical and machine learning methods to cell-free DNA from pregnant women and people. The role focuses on cfDNA to study fetal genomes, placental biology and biomarkers for pregnancy complications, with collaboration across international groups.

You will join the Martin group to contribute to large-scale genomic analyses, implement robust workflows in

Formación

• PhD in a relevant area (statistics, statistical genetics, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, machine learning or similar)
• Strong background in statistics or statistical genetics, including developing, implementing and benchmarking new methods
• Experience with raw sequence data (alignments, variant calling, QC)
• Experience analysing large-scale human genetic/genomic data
• Proficiency in Python and/or R, and Unix/Linux
• Experience or enthusiasm for using AI tools to improve productivity in research and software development
• Knowledge of statistical methods for large-scale genetic research
• Experience writing reproducible code with GitHub, Snakemake/Nextflow, RMarkdown or similar
• Experience developing pipelines for large-scale genomic analyses, HPC/cloud workflows
• Creativity, enthusiasm, attention to detail, problem-solving, independence and collaboration

Responsabilidades

• Develop and apply new statistical and deep learning methods for cfDNA analyses and fetal/m maternal genotype calling
• Collaborate on methylation-aware biomarkers and integrate epigenetic/genetic information in cfDNA analyses
• Mentor junior researchers and contribute to group-wide software development and reproducible workflows
