Job summary

The Manchester Cytology Centre within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an NHSCSP recognised cytology screener. You will perform primary screening and rapid re-screening of cervical cytology samples, ensuring accurate detection of abnormalities in line with NHSCSP protocols.

Confidentiality, precision, and attention to detail are essential as you contribute to the centre’s high-throughput cervical screening programme and quality targets.

Qualifications

Must hold an NHSCSP recognised Certificate of Competence in cervical cytology and act as a cytology screener to microscopically primary screen and rapid re-screen samples.
Confidentiality, accuracy and attention to detail are essential.

Responsibilities

Microscopically primary screen cervical cytology samples to assess quality and report negatives and inadequates per NHSCSP protocols.
Primary screen, mark abnormal cells and refer to senior staff after giving a primary diagnosis per protocols.
Ensure efficient referral for abnormal samples or when a second opinion is needed within turnaround targets.
Rapid re-screen negative and inadequate samples as part of internal quality control.
Maintain sensitivity, specificity and annual screening workload as NHSCSP recommends.
