Job summary

Arup is seeking an experienced CDM Principal Designer to join our UK Mid-West Energy and Water Resources Group, delivering design risk management and CDM compliance across major infrastructure projects from offices in Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham or Nottingham.

The role leads multi-disciplinary design safety, mentors junior staff, and acts as the CDM PD representative on schemes, guiding teams through pre-construction and construction phases with a strong focus on safety and client engagement.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience as CDM Principal Designer in major infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and design risk management.
• Experience with substations, overhead lines, cabling or water infrastructure is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead design risk management and hazard workshops.
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams to embed safety across projects.
• Prepare Pre-Construction Information packs and advise clients on CDM requirements.
• Act as the named CDM PD on schemes and maintain CDM compliance evidence.
• Undertake design and site safety audits and drive improvements.
