Job summary

Wigan & Leigh College is offering a Catering Apprentice role based at the Wigan campus. Work 37 hours per week, 38 weeks per year, with apprentice pay as part of the college Catering and Hospitality team.

You will learn food preparation, cooking, serving and customer service, while developing skills in tills, stock, hygiene and safety. No prior experience required beyond reliability and eagerness to learn.

Qualifications

• Interest in catering, hospitality or food service.
• Good communication skills.
• Basic numeracy and money handling.
• Will learn and take feedback.
• Ability to work in a team.
• Reliable and punctual.
• Professional attitude and presentation.
• Knowledge of catering hygiene helpful but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Help prepare, cook and serve hot and cold food.
• Support food service across refectories, hospitality, bookings and events.
• Serve students, staff and visitors professionally.
• Operate till and support cash handling.
• Assist with stock ordering, replenishment and storage.
• Maintain food hygiene and temperature records.
• Keep kitchens tidy and compliant with procedures.
• Follow health and safety and food hygiene procedures.
• Learn to use catering equipment safely.
• Complete apprenticeship learning and development.
