Job description

Category Manager with Dutch Language (all genders)
  • Full-time

More than 20 years ago, zooplus was one of the first to bring the pet category into the world of eCommerce. Today, we stand strong as Europe’s leading online pet platform, delivering moments of happiness to more than 9 million pet parents each year.

We're on a mission to create joy for pets and their parents, driven by our core values of Care, Courage, Openness, and Simplicity. At the heart of everything we do, they inspire us to grow, raise the bar for our customers, and fuel a pet-first business.

As the Category Manager at zooplus, you will define and implement a comprehensive annual category strategy that encompasses key commercial dimensions to drive business growth. This includes developing local campaign and promotional plans.

Working closely with the Country Head, you will ensure the category strategy aligns seamlessly with the broader country or cluster plan for the year, incorporating Business Unit processes, LE forecasting, OBF strategy, and promotional planning.

Collaboration with central teams and departments such as Visual Merchandising (VM), Marketing, Pricing, and CRM will be essential to shape strategies and actions informed by local market insights.

A deep understanding of category dynamics—customers, market trends, and competitors—will enable you to identify growth opportunities and address potential challenges.

Additionally, you will continuously analyze key business KPIs across sales, category, customer, and product dimensions, taking corrective actions as needed to optimize performance.

Key responsibilities:
  • Recommend adjustments and exceptions of local prices on brand/product level, from the defined global pricing strategy, with a special focus on OBF, by defining the right sources of business.
Promotions:
  • Create a full-year promotional plan considering category dynamics and relevancy, aligning local actions with the central promotions team (complementary to the global campaign calendar) and the Country/Cluster Head.
  • Actively monitor campaign/promo performance and track budget spend versus the local plan.
  • Run topical/brand/product promotions on short notice depending on business needs.
Shelf management:
  • Contribute to the business strategy and requirements for product sorting in PLP and search results, in coordination with other Category Managers (through SME).
  • Support up-selling and cross-selling strategies through product recommendations, with a special focus on OBF visibility.
  • Collaborate with Graphics and Shop Operations teams for category-related banners.
  • Provide inputs for continuous QA processes and approve (if needed) any adjustments in category content.
KPIs:
  • Revenue (Net Sales) and margin (CM1) of the category, brands, and products.
  • Share of wallet in the category (AOF, AOV, Volume).
  • Customer acquisition and retention in the category (and key brands).
  • Promo spend and efficiency.
  • Availability and out-of-stock rates of key brands/products (in collaboration with VM).
  • Traffic and conversion rates (in collaboration with Growth Manager and central teams).

Relevant experience in a similar FMCG or e-Commerce environment, ideally within the pet sector, is preferred. Candidates should possess strong commercial and technical skills, with a deep understanding of core business functions and how they interrelate.

Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization, are essential. Candidates should understand customer needs, market trends, and have an intuitive sense for brands and trends.

Proficiency in English and native Dutch language skills are required. The role demands a hands-on, results-focused approach, high analytical and numerical competencies, and a hardworking attitude.

With over 1,000 passionate professionals across 10 European offices, zooplus values collaboration and leveraging international strengths. Expect a hybrid work environment with remote collaboration.

Our benefits include:
  • 20% discount in our zooplus shop
  • Internal and external training opportunities
  • Team events
  • Health cash plan
  • Group life insurance
  • Company mobile phone for work and personal use
