Job summary

SpaMedica, the UK's largest provider of NHS cataract surgery, is hiring an Optical Assistant on a 12-month fixed-term contract in Widnes. The role is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, across a 4-on-6 pattern from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with a salary of £25,000.

You will work alongside optometrists, support clinic diagnostics, assist in pre- and post-operative clinics, manage equipment and stock, and help maintain patient confidentiality while upholding safety and service standards.

Qualifications

• No specific degrees required (role is technical healthcare support).
• Experience in optical/clinic support is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to clinical governance principles.
• Work with optometrists in daily clinics carrying out diagnostics examinations.
• Assist in pre- and post-operative clinics for all patients.
• Act as theatre runner in busy theatre environment.
• Be proficient in company database i.e medisoft.
• Follow correct reporting procedures for accidents or incidents.
• Prepare areas and ensure equipment is checked and ready.
• Ensure correct storage of equipment.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures.
• Assist with stock control and maintain par levels.
• Manage diagnostic and theatre equipment daily.
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
