Job summary

Wolverhampton Racecourse and Conference Centre is seeking a Casual Stable Staff member to assist with maintenance, preparation and presentation of racecourse stables. You will clean stables to a high standard and ensure readiness for race meetings.

The role is hands‑on, with training provided and hours revolving around race meetings, including evenings and weekends. The position requires reliability, practicality, and a willingness to follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Take full responsibility for the Stables (up to 102) and associated areas.
• Maintain correct documentation and registers.
• Maintain the Stables ground and surrounding area; keep the Stables office tidy.
• Monitor CCTV and liaise with the Clerk of the Course/Estates Manager for supplies.
• Ensure the Sample Unit is secure and samples handed to the agent on collection.
• Carry out high-standard stable cleaning per BHA and ARC guidelines.
• Assist with maintenance programmes for the course, outdoors in varying weather.
• Support other Estate duties as needed.
• Follow all health and safety policies and procedures.

What We’re Looking For

As a Casual Stable Staff member, you’ll help with the maintenance, preparation, and presentation of the racecourse stables. This will mainly involve cleaning out stables to a high standard and making sure everything is ready for upcoming race meetings.

Hourly rate: NMW

You’ll work as part of a team and follow instructions from the Clerk of the Course or Estates Manager.

Hours will revolve around race meetings and will include some evening and some weekend work.

We’re looking for a reliable, practical, and motivated individual who enjoys being hands‑on and making a real contribution to the team. While previous experience is desirable, it’s not essential we’ll provide full training and support to help you succeed in the role.

What You’ll Be Doing

• To take full responsibility for:
• The Stables (up to 102 in total), Veterinary Treatment box and Sample area
• Maintain correct documentation & registers
• The Stables ground & surrounding area
• The Stables office
• CCTV
• Liaise with the Clerk of the Course/Estates Manager in terms of any supplies required
• Overseeing that the Sample Unit remains secure and that samples are handed directly to the agent upon collection.
• Ensure the stables have been cleaned out to a high standard according to the BHA guidelines and ARC Standard. This may be a mixture of a Level 1 clean – removing any soiled bedding or removing the entirety of the bed if the horse has been fed in the stable before disinfecting/ Level 2 clean – removing all bedding and pressure washing the stable, leaving it to dry before bedding down and disinfecting.
• Under the direction of the Clerk of the Course, carry out a maintenance programme for the course. The work entails working outside in changing and often inclement weather conditions and can be physically demanding.
• There may be occasions where you are asked to support the team elsewhere on the Estate with general duties.
• Abide by all regulations and safe working practices in accordance with current legislation and as detailed in the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and Procedures.
