A leading council in Stockport is seeking a Support Assistant to provide excellent customer service in a busy environment. You will assist with inquiries, clerical tasks, and ensure spaces are clean and welcoming. Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills and a positive attitude, contributing to a supportive team across multiple sites.
Salary: £24,404 - £24,790 a year pro rata

If you’re someone who enjoys helping people and keeping things running smoothly, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. We’re looking for a Support Assistant who can bring energy, reliability, and a positive attitude to a busy, customer-facing environment. You’ll be part of a supportive team working across multiple sites, ensuring our services are clean, welcoming, and well-maintained for everyone who uses them.
Your daily tasks will include answering customer inquiries, providing friendly service, supporting with clerical tasks like data entry and handling bookings, and engaging in basic repairs and cleaning to ensure spaces are safe and presentable. There may be times when you need to move items or stand for extended periods, and we will provide necessary equipment for safety. The role involves working on a rota, including evenings and weekends, and occasionally supporting other sites based on operational needs.

You are someone who takes pride in doing your job well and enjoys working in a team. You bring a friendly, helpful attitude to all interactions and can communicate effectively with a diverse range of people, demonstrating patience and positivity. You have some experience in customer service, understand the importance of good communication, and are confident handling money and following financial procedures.
You’re willing to undertake practical tasks such as light repairs, cleaning, or moving items safely. You can work independently using your initiative but also collaborate effectively with others. Your ICT skills are strong—you can manage emails, navigate online systems, and are familiar with Microsoft Office packages.
Most importantly, you care about creating inclusive environments where everyone feels respected. You recognize and respond appropriately to discrimination, understanding that equality and respect are integral to daily work life.
This is a public-facing role, so fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
